Gallery Wall Tips & Ideas
How to create an amazing feature wall
Gallery wall art will fill your bare walls with life. Pictures inside beautiful frames seem to whisper amongst themselves. They are also elegant and eye-catching. If you are an art enthusiast, but are constrained by a budget, then creating your own gallery art is the perfect answer to your creative sensibilities.
Usually, when browsing through a home décor magazine or on the Internet you will see walls filled with pictures from top to bottom, and it looks like a big undertaking. So if you’ve got lots of time and money at hand, go for it. However, if you are limited in both, here are a few gallery wall tips that will give wings to your creativity.
- Frames are pretty expensive. If you plan on getting some of those really exquisite ones, remember to set aside a budget for them. Otherwise stick to simple ones that have a clean look.
- Now, measure the dimensions of your wall. Prepare a rough sketch of the wall with scaled paper cutouts of frames on it. Play around a bit until you get the right arrangement. There are various styles you can follow for arranging the frames. It is best to have larger frames inside with the smaller ones towards the outside.
- Purchase the frames according to what you’ve decided and hang them. You will need a hammer, hooks, a measuring tape, pencils, screwdrivers and a drill to hang the frames.
- It is not necessary that you fill all the frames at once. This would mean investing a lot of money in one go. You can keep some of them empty and fill them over time.
- You can use some of your own photography, wall paintings you’ve acquired from a flea market, graphic art, canvas prints, rugs or a painting, mix and match for an eclectic resut!
One of the main limitations of creating a framed gallery art wall is that you are restricted to the size of the frames you’ve already hung. You should be careful when buying art, and always have the dimensions ready at hand when selecting artworks.
